Match Result 30th August – Robinswood Lake 2

Twenty anglers fished the match this week so this made for good pegging, with everyone having a spare peg to one side.  Ian Shaw had drawn the Golden Peg this week and fancied his chances on Peg 5.  Our last club match at this venue was won on Peg 18 so it was definitely the peg to draw again this time.  Craig Logan was the lucky recipient and he caught from the off, fishing down his margin.  Apart from Craig, it was a slow start for most.  The Tornado had drawn end Peg 32 and caught a quick carp but couldn’t keep his good run of form going.  Ian Moon had drawn Peg 14 and was getting plenty of bites but frustratingly couldn’t get them in the net.  In the 3rd hour several anglers starting to catch down their margins, including Ian Shaw who was now catching carp to 17lb.  Ian Moon was stating to land fish, Andy Kerry was putting a run of fish together and Dave Harris was now catching but frustratingly was losing more than he landed.  The final hour saw Rob Wright on Peg 9 catch really well, fishing pellets short.  The Tornado called time and it was clear Craig had won the match but it would go down to the scales to separate the rest of the competitors.

1st  Craig Logan – 95lb 3oz

2nd  Ian Shaw – 64lb 15oz

3rd  Rob Wright – 45lb 13oz

4th  Andy Kerry – 38lb 3oz

Section 1  Tony Males – 24lb 7oz

Section 2  Ian Moon  – 35lb 8oz

Match Result 24th August – Brailsford Horseshoe

Another good turn out this week.  The matches on Horseshoe are normally won with over 100lb and great back up weights.  All the anglers were eagerly awaiting the draw to find out what peg they had for the day but more importantly to make sure they hadn’t drawn next to The Tornado Ade Knighton after his previous week’s performance! Craig Logan was happy to draw two pegs away from him but unfortunately could still see and hear him… 😉

The match got off to a good start for Glen Homes – catching two quick carp – but everyone else seemed to be struggling.  With two hours gone it was turning out to be a real struggle with just the odd fish being caught and a lot of foul hooked fish being reported.  In the third hour Craig Radford on Peg 9 and Carl Wilson on Peg 8 were starting to put some fish together fishing shallow.  Also The Treble John Lowe on Peg 30 and The Tornado on Peg 31 were matching each other fish for fish on paste.  The Tornado was trying something new this week, playing fish standing up but the pond was still fishing incredibly hard.

The fourth hour saw Ian Bradley on Peg 20, Ian Shaw on Peg 21 and Danny Gaetto on Peg 17 all starting to catch in the margins.  Dave Perry on Peg 22 had drawn the Golden Peg this week but only seemed interested in catching crayfish, at least that what we all thought.  But then to my and everyone’s surprise it went a bit “Quentin Tarantino” 😱 – I felt sorry for the crayfish and will never look at him in the same way again….  He has now earned the nickname KILLER PERRY.

In the final hour Craig Radford and Ralph Marshall on Peg 11  looked to be the only ones catching, then with 20 mins left the fish finally turned up for club favourite Craig Logan down his margin and he made the most of it catching 5 more Carp.  There will be a collection this coming Sunday to buy a new battery for The Tornado’s watch as it seems to be running a bit fast!  Well done to Ollie for beating his Dad and good luck going back to school – it’s been nice having you attending the matches and we look forward to seeing you back in the holidays.

1st  Craig Radford – 51lb 5oz

2nd  Ian Shaw – 37lb 6oz

3rd  Danny Gaetto – 33lb 6oz

4th  Craig Logan 30lb 9oz

Section 1  Ralph Marshall – 30lb 6oz

Section 2  The Tornado – 26lb 11oz

Match Result 16th August – Beechwood Kingfisher

Another good turn out this week with even more new faces fishing with us for the first time.  They must have heard about the friendly members, well run matches and light hearted banter – either that or they have found out that we’re pool fodder…😂  Regardless, it’s nice to see new faces fishing the matches.  The match this week was at the popular Kingfisher Pond at Beechwood, with more good pegs than bad.  There are always good weights and plenty of close battles and this was no exception with only ounces separating anglers at the end.

Junior member Ollie Flindall drew next to club favourite and all round good guy Craig Logan and he wanted revenge for the last time they fished by each other.  Craig Radford offered £10 to Ollie if he could beat Craig – easy money some might say.  Ollie got off to a great start catching three quick Carp in the first 15 minutes and putting the pressure on Craig.  Unfortunately for Craig he had Golden Oldie – AKA” The Tornado” – Ade Knighton pegged the other side of him, who was having problems playing Carp in his own peg and must have thought it would be easier playing them in Craig’s.  Apparently those WHITE CARP are hard to play!  A letter of complaint has been sent to the committee.

Meanwhile, Adam Logan on peg 12 and Ian Bradley on peg 13 were having a good battle matching each other fish for fish and only ounces between them both at the end.  There was another good battle going on at the top end of the pond between Ian Moon, Dave Perry, Lee Daft, and “The Treble” John Lowe – all four were catching well on the pole and at the end all four where admitting to 50lb plus.  First place went to Lee Daft on peg 24 – this was his first match with the club.  Lee fished meat down both his margins for most of the match catching Carp to 6lb.  Second place went to Dave Perry on peg 26 – Dave switched between fishing pellet shallow and on the deck before moving to his margins.  Third Place went to Adam Logan – Adam fished the feeder for most of the match but also caught odd Carp on the pole.  Special mention this week goes to Ollie who not only beat Craig off the next peg but also beating all the anglers around him, and was just out of the main money – well done Ollie.

1st  Lee Daft – 84lb

2nd  Dave Perry – 62lb 8oz

3rd  Adam Logan – 61lb 10oz

4th  Ian Bradley – 61lb 5oz

Section 1  The Treble – 51lb 1oz

Section 2  Ian Moon – 60lb 2oz

Match Result 2nd August – Stanton Privates Pond

This week’s highly anticipated match was on Privates Pond and with some new faces, over 20 people fishing and a extra £50 golden peg to be won everyone was looking forward to start.  Matches are normally extremely close on our waters and this match was no exception. Adam Logan fishing Peg 8 got off to a great start catching quality Roach on caster, but as the match progressed it was the golden oldies that started to make their mark on the match!  Ade Knighton fishing Peg 22 fed ground bait with casters and caught a 4lb Tench early and backed this up catching skimmers for the remainder of the match.  Dave Harris fishing peg 20 got off to a slow start but started to put a run of F1s together fishing maggot over Pellets.  Pegged next to Dave was The Treble – The Treble got off to a good start catching F1s but this slowed down as the match progressed.  It looked to be between the three but Ian Shaw had a fantastic last hour catching Carp and F1s on the drop.  At the all in nobody knew who had won with several anglers having a chance of framing.  Coming out on top was Ade Knighton with a impressive 11lb 14oz slightly over his 6lb easement – if his run continues I’m sure it won’t be long before we start having a presentation night again 😉

1st  Ade Knighton – 11lb 14oz

2nd  Ian Shaw – 10lb 15oz

3rd  John Lowe – 9lb 12oz

4th  Dave Harris – 9lb 7oz

Section  Adam Logan – 8lb

Section  Craig Logan – 9lb 5oz
